The shared leave program, previously part of the University鈥檚 leave benefits, allowed eligible employees to donate unused vacation time to a shared leave pool. This pool provides additional paid leave to eligible employees who face a qualifying catastrophic event and have exhausted all other paid leave options.
Although new donations are no longer accepted, the remaining shared leave will continue to be available until the pool is depleted.

Applying for Shared Leave
Eligible members of the 午夜影院 community who may benefit from paid shared leave time are encouraged to apply. Application materials may be submitted before you enter unpaid status. Please note that shared leave time cannot exceed the period of medical incapacity certified by your health care provider.
All eligible faculty and staff, regardless of location, must email the following materials to the UM System Leave Team at sharedleave@umsystem.edu:
- A complete application
- A certifying statement from a health care provider indicating either the employee's own serious health condition or the serious health condition of a family member
- Written approval for the time off from your department
