Student exchanges were added to the UMSAEP portfolio in 2001 with the creation of the Henry Mitchell Scholarship. In 2004, the Mizzou School of Law launched a study abroad program with the UWC Faculty of Law that has run continuously since then. In the past 20 years, hundreds of UM System students have participated in faculty-led programs in Cape Town facilitated by UMSAEP.

Henry Mitchell Scholarship
Named in honor of a former UMSAEP committee chair and 午夜影院-Kansas City faculty member, the Henry Mitchell Scholarship provides opportunities for UM System and UWC students to study at partner institutions. This annual scholarship provides one $4,000 award to a UM System student for study at UWC and one $6,500 award to a UWC student to study at any UM System campus.

Ivan Rugema Fellowship
The Ivan Rugema Fellowship supports two UWC law students to earn their master of laws degree at the Mizzou School of Law each year.
Created in 2006 through the generosity of Goeff Olesner and Robert Lande, the fellowship received additional financial support and was endowed in 2025 by Mizzou Law alumnus Fred White. Ivan Rugema, for whom the fellowship is named, grew up in the civil war in Rwanda. After his year at Mizzou, he returned to UWC as a popular lecturer and began working on his Ph.D. before an untimely cancer diagnosis. He died in 2013, and the Mizzou School of Law named the fellowship after him.
Previous fellowship recipients have gone on to do amazing things, including clerk for the South African Constitutional Court and work for the most prestigious law firm in Johannesburg.
International Summer Research Internship
The Mizzou School of Medicine's Office of Research coordinates an annual summer research program with the goal of recruiting students from the University of the Western Cape.
